Asia University held the 2022 Taiwan Education Fair, introducing study in Taiwan for Indonesian students, on March 12 and 13. Forty-seven Taiwan universities, both public and private, participated in this event and took turns to present their universities to all the Indonesian participants on line.
Dr. Nicole Yen-Yi Lee, Director General, Ministry of Education, was invited to give her opening remarks online to all the participants. As she mentioned, Taiwan’s higher education is known for its high quality and reasonable tuition. In addition to academic research, Taiwan universities provide ample opportunities for various internships in the fields of agriculture, nursing, manufacturing and IT-related industries. The Taiwan government also provides various scholarships, including Taiwan Scholarships, Huayu Enrichment Scholarships and Elite Scholarships, to Indonesian students to facilitate their study in Taiwan.
Professor Jeffrey Tsai, President of Asia University and the host of this event, stated that the Taiwan Education Center in Surabaya has held such education fairs for five consecutive years and that the number of attending students has reached as many as 15,000 this time. Today, Indonesian students are among the largest populations of recruited international students.
Dean-Shiang Lin, Director General of Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Surabaya, also encouraged Indonesian students to come to Taiwan for their oversea studies. Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU, Asean Eng., Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, Rector, UNAIR, Dr. Komarudin, M.Si, Rector, UNJ, and Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., Rector, UMY, were also invited to address to the participants, and they all pointed out that “Study in Taiwan” has already become a major brand name for Indonesian students to go abroad for international education. The education fair plays an important role in promoting Taiwan’s higher education to Indonesian students.
Professor Yinghuei Chen, Dean of International College and the organizer of this education fair, said that Taiwan is a Muslim-friendly country in addition having inexpensive tuition, a safe environment, quality teaching and internship opportunities. After their graduation from Taiwan universities, most of the Indonesian students are able to find good jobs in Indonesia and benefit Indonesian society with what they have learned in Taiwan.
