Shu-Xuan Wu, a sophomore student from the Department of Creative Product Design at Asia University (AU), participated in the First Taiwan Sculpture Award Competition which was organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government with her work "Not bad." Furthermore, the work was selected from more than 100 works and granted a Selection Award. As mentioned above, Mr. Neng-Ting Tseng, the deputy director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government, said that most of the contestants for the Taiwan Sculpture Awards this year are artists who have much experiences, and so it is commendable that Shu-Xuan Wu wins the award because she is the youngest of the winners.
Prof. Chi-Chuan Chen, a famous sculptor from the Department of Creative Product Design at AU, said that Shu-Xuan Wu started from the basic graphic design, and has worked hard to form points, lines, and surfaces, integrating what she has learned from the courses offered by the department. “The work made by Shu-Xuan Wu shows smooth, graceful and pure shapes in abstract expressionism,” said Prof. Chen in addition.
Shu-Xuan Wu said that when she has known that the contestants were all senior sculptors from all over the country, she was very surprised at being honored to have her plaster work been granted the award. She made the work during her freshman year at AU. “Thanks to Prof. Ya-Chuan Ko for her enlightenment and encouragement of us to participate the competition, so that I have the opportunity to obtained the award and feel the heritage of culture.
In addition to congratulating Shu-Xuan Wu for winning the award, Prof. Ya-Chuan Ko also encourages other students to feel their own creations and classworks with their hearts, and cultivate good learning attitudes and professional qualities.
